[TRAVEL ADVISORY] Canada Government Pre-departure COVID-19 Test Requirement for All Travellers Entering Canada

The Government of Canada is requiring all passengers five years of age or older to provide proof of a negative laboratory test result for COVID-19 before boarding international flights to Canada effective January 7, 2021

 

Please find the following details below:

  • All customers five years of age or older entering Canada from an international destination is required to provide, prior to boarding a flight, a negative COVID-19 PCR test.
  • The test must be taken within 72 hours of departure from your flight to Canada. Some exceptions apply.
  • At present, the Government of Canada has not yet finalized or published a list of testing facilities for every country. Visit travel.gc.ca for official updates.
  • Even with a negative COVID-19 PCR test all customers entering Canada will still have to complete mandatory 14-day quarantine.


Test results can be presented in paper or electronic format. It must include the following data elements:

  • Passenger’s Name (matches the name on the passenger’s identification);
  • Passenger’s date of birth;
  • Name and address of the lab/facility that administered the test;
  • Date on which the test was conducted, and the date is within 72 hours of the flight to
  • Canada’s scheduled departure time;
  • Method of test conducted, and that it is a PCR test (‘DPI’, or ‘antigen’ or ‘antibody’ are not acceptable);
  • Test result is indicated as negative (‘inconclusive’ is not acceptable)


You do not need to provide a negative COVID-19 PRC test if:

  • Your flight to Canada is prior to January 7; and/or
  • You are only transiting through a Canadian airport from one international destination to another, without entering Canada. Please ensure you are aware of and in compliance with the entry requirements for your final destination.
