Common signs of infection include fever, dry cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, an infection that can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death. Currently, there is no known vaccine or medicine to fight COVID-19 yet.  However, Prevention is the key to avoid getting infected

Here are some ways you can safeguard yourself from getting infected by the coronavirus.

Always wash hands for at least 20 seconds and/or sanitize them with at least a 70% alcohol.
Washing and sanitizing your hands can help break down viruses that may be on your hands.

Practice Social Distancing
If you are able to go out and do an important errand, somehow you encounter a sick person, maintain at least a 1-meter distance from him/her to avoid getting tiny droplets that may or may not cause infection from the virus.

Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment
To people who are sick wearing facemasks is a must and when you are around other people, practice distancing yourself.
For healthy people wear a mask only if you are caring for someone who is sick or a person with suspected COVID-19 infection. Facemasks may be in short supply and they should be saved for the health workers, other medical staff and front-liners.
But if you choose to wear a facemask make sure it is covering your mouth, nose and chin leaving no gaps between your face and the mask.

When going back to your house, disinfect yourself immediately
You may not be aware but you might have carried the virus with you. Disinfect yourself by changing clothes, disinfecting your footwear and taking a proper bath.

Regularly disinfect your mobile devices and laptops
As said by many studies our mobile phones, laptops, and other surface are prone to germs, now you might not see it but it is better to disinfect your mobile phone and other gadgets before you use them. Sam goes with other surfaces like tables and countertops.

Drink vitamins every day
COVID-19 targets those who have a weak immune system or those people with underlying sickness like heart disease, asthma or diabetes. Make sure to drink your vitamins to help you're toughening your immune system and fight the virus within.

Get enough sleep
Sleep is an important factor in our everyday lives, and a study shows sleep may help our antibodies gain more energy to fight unwelcome bacteria and viruses that may get us sick.

Expose yourself with some sunlight
If you have a safe area to do so or a window, expose yourself to at least 5-20 min of direct sunlight every day. This is a natural way to get your daily dose of Vitamin D and exposure from sunlight boosts your immune system.

Stay at home as much as possible
The most important thing, staying home or self- quarantine, helps everyone else. How? By staying home you minimize the chance to be a carrier of the virus, preventing others to be exposed as well.

These are ways for you to stay safe during an outbreak but don’t forget these other few reminders:
  1. Stay tuned to all government advisories, especially health protocols that are really simple and yet could be very effective.
  2. Sneeze and cough into tissues or the crook of your elbow. If you get mucus or spit on your skin, clean it off right away. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
  3. Stay home when you're sick. And if you think you are showing symptoms from the COVID-19 contact your local health hospital or directly call the Department of Health at 02-894-COVID (02-894-26849) and 1555.

Travelers, we may have to keep ourselves at home but there are many to have fun inside the four corners of your room. Not only that when all else solved and died down, think that you can enjoy traveling again and looking at the brighter side of the hardships we experience.

Take care and stay safe, everyone.
