[PHILIPPINES TRAVEL ADVISORY] Philippine Airlines All Passengers Must Wear Face Shields and Face Masks

Effective August 15, 2020, all passengers are required to wear both face shields as well as face masks to comply with the Philippine Department of Transportation regulations.  The directive to wear face shields and masks applies to all domestic and international flights.

The shields and masks must be worn at airports and on-board flights, except during meals or when instructed by the flight or cabin crew to remove the shields and/or masks.

PAL is requesting for passengers to ensure the following:
- Face shields must be of good quality and in good condition clear and sturdy; the shield must fit comfortably and cover the entire face.
- Bring an extra supply of face shields in your carry-on baggage, in case you need to replace the first one if damaged

Exempted from wearing face shields and face masks:
- Children up to 2 years old
- Individuals with respiratory concerns who have difficulty breathing

Passengers are also encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizers and on-board travel essentials, including writing pens needed to fill up required forms.

The new directive on face shields complements PAL existing multi-layered safety measures such as:
- the use by our cabin crew of full PPE or Personal Protective Equipment in flight,
- the availability of hand sanitizers on-ground and inflight
- thermal scanning of all passengers
- modified inflight service with packaged meals
- installation of protective barriers at airport and ticket office counters
- intensive disinfection of aircraft surfaces using high-grade eco-friendly cleaning agents
- high-tech cabin airflow systems to refresh cabin air, and use of HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters to cleanse cabin air of impurities, bacteria, and viruses, with 99.99% efficacy.

Safety remains the cornerstone of PAL operations. Travel rules and regulations are subject to regular review and adjustment by aviation authorities in consultation with air carriers, in the interest of public safety.

How to protect yourself from the coronavirus or COVID-19?
  • With the continual spread of the coronavirus or COVID19, it is better to stay vigilant and follow these simple ways to prevent yourself from getting the disease.
  • Wash your hands with soap or use a hand sanitizer that contains alcohol with at least 70% solution.
  • Sneeze and cough into tissues or the crook of your elbow. If you get mucus or spit on your skin, clean it off right away. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick, especially people exhibiting respiratory symptoms and fever.
  • Stay home when you're sick.
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean surfaces, such as countertops and doorknobs, with a disinfectant.
  • If you are sick:  You should wear a facemask when you are around other people and practice distancing yourself.
  • For healthy people wear a mask only if you are caring for someone who is sick or a person with suspected COVID-19 infection. Facemasks may be in short supply and they should be saved for the caregivers.
  • If you choose to wear a facemask make sure it is covering your mouth and nose and leave no gaps between your face and the mask.
Take care and stay safe, everyone.
